That is it folks, the Valentines sale is over, people went mad in the shops buying ‘special’ ready meals and chocolate or strawberry focused sweet treats, we went and did our food shop, not the best idea as it was awfully busy, and it is half-term here in the UK, children everywhere. I digress.

In other news, have you seen Jamie Oliver’s new pizza restaurant ‘Union Jacks’, designed by Blacksheep. It is full of carefully curated kitsch.Pics from Fast Code Design

I love the combination of sleek modern design, like the stainless steel kitchen and the wooden interior, warmth in an industrial environment. Check out the pics and this info straight from Charlotte’s portfolio.

“This historic artist’s loft was ‘reinvisioned’ as a gracious one room home for a couple, taking care to respect the old spirit of the place. A sixty-five foot wood library element provides organization to the space nad serves to define a day bed area with stunning view of the city in two directions. An industrial metal kitchen, custom-made in Italy break the rhythm of the library and opens up to spectacular north facing 22′ high sky lights.

While the main space  keeps its original soul, the bathrooms and dressing areas have been designed like minimal luxury men’s store, an iconic contrast in grey marble and matching cerused (limed) wood panelling.”

I always like to think that making things yourself to decorate or eat around Christmas adds to its charm. That is to get away from the commercialism of it all and spend time at home doing things with family, friends or quietly by yourself. That being said, there is no doubt that someone else may be able to do something much better than ourselves, and for that we have ETSY. We love Etsy is allows us to set up our own shop but really we love it because it exposes us to amazing talent from all over the world. Here are some our favourites for hand-made Xmas decorations.

There is nothing more homely than having a decent collection of vintage books that add warmth and character whilst making people think you are somewhat intellectual. They also make great gifts for the coming seasonal festivities.

As such Drunken House have a little collection of vintage Enid Blyton books appearing in our Etsy Store. There is the entire series of the Malory Towers books ranging from first editions to fourth.

First Year at Malory Towers (Fourth Edition – 1949)
Second Form at Malory Towers (Second Edition – 1948)
Third Year at Malory Towers (Second Edition – 1949)
Upper Fourth at Malory Towers (First Edition – 1949)
In The Fifth at Malory Towers (First Edition – 1950)
Last Term at Malory Towers (First Edition – 1951))

Anyone For Tea?

This is a truly fabulous collection of four cups, saucers, plates, a milk jug and sugar bowl (with lid). In vibrant orange this set is very 'retro' with it's clamshell design and heavy 60's feel. That being said it will look fantastic in any home where one wants style with history. I'm sad to sell this. There are 4 Cups, 4 Saucers, 4 Small Plate, 1 Milk Jug and 1 Sugar Bowl. Made from glass and all in amazing condition.

We like tea at Drunken House and nothing makes us feel more 'retro' than this Biltons green and yellow greek(ish) style pattern. The England company have been making pottery since the 1900's and this collection we put at around 1960, although we cannot discover for sure. The set consists of: 6 Tea Cups, 6 Saucers, 6 Small Plates, 1 Milk Jug, 1 Sugar Bowl and 1 Large round plate for cake or sandwiches.

Very pretty tea set from Old Royal, England. This is a small set perfect for afternoon tea. With 3 cups, saucers and small plates as well as a milk jug and sugar bowl.

Isabel Quiroga’s Storyteller Bookshelf concept is simple yet wonderfully effective. Providing attractive wall storage and display out of vintage tables. Because of its somewhat modular design, one can pick and choose their style, colour and make a perfect fit for their purpose. See more at Isabel’s website: Isabel Quiroga.

If you are like my mother you enjoy buying things because you like them and do not care if they work with your decor, desired look or taste. If you are also like my mother you will then moan about how nothing in your home goes together and how awful it looks. Quite right, it is all well and good decorating your home with things you like, you should, it is after all your home. However you still have to try continuity in theme, design and general aesthetic. What I suggest is to create a scrap-book of your favourite interiors and from this, over time you will see a pattern emerging. This will be your favoured design, so run with it.

People go wrong with interior design for two main reasons (in my opinion). Continue reading »

GRAFFITI, ART NOUVEAU AND A LITTLE BIT OF SOUL

The Hotel Wiesler is the new epitome of contemporary luxury. Clean spaces with retro furniture achieving simplicity and warmth to this rather special Austrian hotel. As a city center hotel, the Wiesler has a romantic ‘come hither’ appeal, despite its strong business use. Trendy business travellers will be in their element surrounded by idiosyncratic design. Whilst those on a city break can feel culturally included even when sitting for dinner in the street art inspired “Speisesaal” with painting by Josef Wurm.

Going one step further to new indulgence and hospitality, the once five star Grand Wiesler has freed itself from ratings and restrictions, points and regulations. Instead it aims to set “new standards as far as additional service is concerned”, very trendy, neccassary and modern of them.

The press shots below show the Wiesler in all its glory with branding by Moodley. Continue reading »

Welcome

Drunken House, created in 2011 by three relatives aims to offer the most stylish, desirable and unique objects for furnishing your home. Be it a refurbished dining table from 1810, a classic piece of 1960's furniture or a quintessential handmade finishing touch or gift.

Above all we seek quality and style. If we can't find it, we'll make it, if we can't make it, we'll talk about it, if we can't talk about it we'll have a drink and reconsider.

So join us here for our take on the latest interior trends, essential design tips and of course all the details on obtaining the pieces you need to achieve great rooms and a beautiful home.

Basically…

Drunken House is an effort by three relatives to push design and style into peoples lives. Such a quest cannot be achieved easily. First and foremost they must educate themselves, then they have to combine skill, creativity and brut labour into producing stylish and design-centric articles. Of course working with family will have it ups and downs, but together they might be able to pull off something spectacular. A new home-grown, family business. Plus with Dexter, the ridiculously good looking one in charge, Drunken House is bound to succeed.
